Wellness

We know from research and experience that mental health and physical health are closely connected. As we listen to our clients’ stories, we often hear about health concerns that are in the foreground or background of experience. And we are committed to bearing witness and providing appropriate support to the wellness journey of those with whom we work.

We understand that healing journeys intersect with:

  • our varied identities
  • systemic invalidation
  • finding the personally valid balance of acceptance, change, and meaning-making
  • navigating grief and loss
  • advocacy efforts, and more

Our wellness services team in Flourish consider these factors in working with mental health in the areas of:

  • preparation for procedures including surgeries
  • working with personal chronic pain and life-limiting health conditions
  • parenting
  • partnering or caregiving individuals with health concerns
  • decision-making
  • and relational support

Therapy for Chronic Pain

Do you or does someone in your family experience chronic pain? We may be able to help. Our team approach is designed to be empowering and strength-based, integrating current health psychology principles, along with collaborations with your outside health care team as appropriate.

Through positive therapeutic relationships, clients of all ages learn new ways to understand the brain/pain relationship and to use their minds to increase comfort in their bodies. Our team of clinicians use strength-based, “known to work” approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and clinical hypnosis. In addition, expressive arts provide an avenue for creative expression when words are hard to find. All of our therapy services for individuals, groups and families are being offered in person in Pasadena and/or online via Telehealth (online therapy), depending on the needs of the individual and family.

Assessment

Sometimes a neuropsychological, cognitive, academic and/or psychological evaluation can add clarity and helpful recommendations. Several members of our assessment team have specialized training in health psychology and provide these types of individualized evaluations as needed.
